Hello everyone! Thanks for watching last week’s show. We had so much fun. It was a real festive night and I will never forget watching five men in diapers read Charles Manson quotes. Not to mention, the Toys and Tiny Instruments were mind blowing and awesome.
This week, we are going to embrace the recent trend that’s been going on with our show, which is a real international flair! We’ve gotten calls from Sweden, Australia, Wales, and Canada during our live show and man is that awesome. To know that people all the way across the globe have found our rinky dink little late night public access show and call in from that far away is mind blowing. We want to celebrate and encourage this by staging a downright INTERNATIONAL show, framed around a game we’re calling FOREIGN LANGUAGE BINGO –
Here’s how it works! Every member of our studio audience will be given a bingo board upon entering the studio. That bingo board will have the names of countries and languages written on it.
Any time a caller from one of those countries calls in they can mark off their board. Any time someone calls in speaking in a different language, they can mark that language on the board. Now, how will we know for sure people are speaking for real in non-English languages? I’m glad you asked. Currently, we have people on the panel who are fluent in the following languages -
- French
- Spanish
- Italian
- Russian
- Hebrew
- Greek
- Jamaican patois
- Cape Verdean creole
- German
- Polish
And that’s just so far! I’m working on a handful more.
So if you live overseas, or if you speak those listed languages, call up our show at 212-757-1393 this week and help our audience members get to bingo! (Anyone who gets to bingo gets a TCGS style weird prize that will unfold in the studio itself.)
I don’t need to know at all what’s being said, by the way. WE WANT AS MUCH OF THIS SHOW TO TAKE PLACE IN NON-ENGLISH LANGUAGES AS POSSIBLE. I WILL BE HAPPIEST IF ZERO PERCENT OF THE PHONE CALLS IN THIS SHOW HAPPEN IN ENGLISH.
That being said, English speakers – if you’d like to be a part of this, we’re happy to offer the following service – if you call us up and want a phrase translated, we’ll do our best to have people say it in about ten different languages. It can be whatever you want, barring that you don’t offend our translators.
On top of all that, we’re happy to welcome back to the Chris Gethard Show stage BIG DIGITS! This Boston based electro dance hip hop group played our show many months ago, shared the stage with us when we did our live show in Boston, and we are very happy to announce that they are joining us again a day ahead of their show on Thursday at Death by Audio (with our friends Mindtroll!) We can’t wait to get up and dance again as they throw down and show us how fun is done.
