Hey everyone!
Thanks to everyone who participated in the Twist magazine episode of the show last week. It was super weird but super fun. The Naked Heroes crushed it so hard on top of all the other insanity. And also, fuck Philadelphia. What a second rate excuse for a city.
This week, we’re doing a very special experiment called The Behind the Scenes episode. Fans of the show will note that sometimes on the show we talk about how “things come down to the wire” or “we really cut it close on sound check on that one” – things that indicate that our experience setting up the studio was an intense and stressful process. Sometimes it still goes that way! The bottom line is that we don’t get more than an hour to set up in the studio, usually less than that, and we aren’t allowed to store anything at the studio. The entirety of our set has to fit inside the trunk of my Ford Fiesta. Everyone shows up at ten and we all run around getting the set up, the panelists briefed on the night’s events, the cameras up and running, the live stream up and running, the LLC soundchecked, our musical guests soundchecked, our phone system live, and our audience loaded in. It can get pretty nuts.
I think for the people who attend live, they feel like that’s really a part of what sets the tone of the show each night, being there and being a part of it. But for those of you who watch on TV and the internet, you can only get a small sense of that. Even though traditionally the whole POINT of producing a tv show is to make it feel effortless and packaged, we think it’s sort of a shame that home viewers don’t get the full experience. Getting this show together each week is sort of like trying to get the Millenium Falcon into hyperspace. The studio should hold together, we really love it, it ain’t the prettiest, and when it gets going there’s nothing like it… but sometimes that 11 PM start time is bearing down on us like an Imperial Star Destroyer and it’s only at 10:58 that we realize the hyperdrive motivator blew out or whatever.
Most shows might do a behind the scenes episode where they send a camera crew to document that process and edit together a package showing what it’s like. Not us! We are a live show – so for our behind the scenes episode, we are simply going to start every single aspect of this week’s show an hour later than we usually do, effectively showing you guys the start to finish process of setting up the show. You’ll see the crew wander in, the soundchecks go awry, the actors show up late, all the stuff that usually happens behind the scenes before the show starts, will now happen live during our pre-allotted broadcast slot. We’ll let you guys see the nitty gritty aspects of this television making magic.
I’ll be hosting the whole thing to camera, so if you have specific questions about different things you see going down or want to know more about the different cast and crew members and how they get ready before each show, call us at 212-757-1393 and I’ll make my way to their corner of the studio so we can get their insight in their own words.
Everything. Starts. One. Hour. Later.
On top of all that mayhem, we’re SUPER PSYCHED to welcome musical guests CIRCADIAN CLOCK to the show. Not only are they a top notch band that we can’t wait to rock out to, they’re fronted by a near and dear family member of TCGS, the one and only RANDOM MELISSA! We can’t wait to welcome Melissa back to the show in style as she takes the show’s musical wing by storm much like she did the panel a few months back!
Wednesday at 11 eastern time, live! Tune in! Call in! If you want to be in our studio audience, email [email protected] – Gonna be a real fun, weird one!
