Ever since I got an iPad I've been having a huge comic splurge. Currently working my way through Girls and Y the last Man, both are just fantastic.

The Sword by the Luna Brothers is also pretty damn good.

But in terms of the big 2 (Marvel and DC) I'm enjoying the new Batman, the court of owls run was excellent. I read AVX over the summer and have just been disappointed in that from start to finish sadly. Obvious story, terrible art, butchered characters.

Meh.

I loved The Sword. It was so epic. They should turn that into a movie. Batman has been great. I never used to follow him, but Scott Snyder is an amazing writer. You're right about Avengers V. X-Men. A bunch of nonsense. Fun sometimes. But a bunch of nonsense. I'd be mad about it if I had paid for it.

Have fun with Y the Last Man. I cried like a baby when it was all over. I hope they don't butcher it when they adapt it, but last I read they were going to try to squeeze it into one movie.

Just do it! It is hard. It's like when you get really into downloading music and all of a sudden you have like 15 albums that you need to listen to and all of a sudden it just feels like work. But that's only if you download a little too much.

I would recommend the following (for anyone):

Saga. It's by Brian K Vaughan and already shaping up to be amazing like Y the Last Man. http://io9.com/5934260/brian-k-vaughan-talks-saga-one-of-the-years-best-science-fiction-comics
Sweet Tooth - free first issue http://www.bleedingcool.com/2010/03/26/freel-sweet-tooth-1-by-jeff-lemire-from-vertigo/
The New Deadwardians - http://www.vertigocomics.com/comics/the-new-deadwardians-2012
Animal Man and Swamp Thing got restarted like a year ago and are tied together telling an insane, creepy story.
Punk Rock Jesus is a glorious bit of sacrilege. http://www.vertigocomics.com/comics/punk-rock-jesus-2012/punk-rock-jesus-1
The Unwritten It started out as a weird Harry Potter thing, but turned into something amazing. All about literature and the power of storytelling. It's almost done now. http://www.vertigocomics.com/graphic-novels/the-unwritten-vol-1-tommy-taylor-and-the-bogus-identity

You know, I think I will check out ALL of those suggestions. I LOVED Y The Last Man, and I'd heard great things about Sweet Tooth, Animal Man, and Swamp Thing. The latter two being characters with INCREDIBLY histories. Morrison. Milligan. Moore. Other M names of brilliant writers doing psychedelic stories in the 80's and 90's.

And I read the first issue of Unwritten, but I didn't realize it was still going. I'll check em out. Thanks man.

I think I got really sick of the Avengers stuff Marvel was doing. Was AvX no good? I loved Bendis's early Avengers revitalization, but as time went on... Somewhere between Secret Invasion (Which was okay) and Seige (which was pretty good) I just got bored of it. I loved most of the Dark _____ titles, but I got bored of the actual Avengers and events and never got interested again..

Cliff, you should definitely check out Saga. I only picked it up because of Brian K. Vaughan, but it has turned out to be a great book. The artist, Fiona Staples, is really talented as well. They're taking a two month break, so now is a good time to jump on and catch up.

I Zombie just got cancelled, but it was fun while it lasted. Really kitschy. It was about a zombie whose best friends were the ghost of a 60's go go girl type, and a were-terrier whose grandfather's soul was in a chimp.

Walking Dead is pretty hyped, but deservedly. Kirkman has another book he helped create but doesn't work on called Thief of Thieves. It relies pretty heavily on the art to push the story, but it has a cinematic feel so it doesn't feel like a rip off like it does when the majors use splash pages to fill space. I think he's working with AMC on turning it into a show too.

Of the big 2, I think the current Daredevil run is the best out there right now, but I don't keep up with them as much as I would like to because of all the crossovers and steep prices.
