I love The Pixies so ridiculously much that I can't listen to them anymore.
By this, I mean that all of their albums played such a significant part of my life. I got into them at the end of high school (belatedly) and they were probably the band I listened to the most from 1995 to 2000. It's either them or Pavement.
All of their albums meant so much to me at the time. But it's weird because I was in college when that was my band, and I listened to them because I was secretly miserable during that era of my life. But now I'm nostalgic about college and realized at the end that I had an amazing time, so the Pixies just remind me of feelings I had that I don't have anymore.
I don't know if that makes sense. But I will always love everything they put out (in a lot of ways, I can be convinced that Trompe is their best work) even if I can't listen to it anymore.
I totally get that. There's a lot of music that I listened to at periods in high school and college that bring up emotions. Music has a tendency to do that. It gets tied into the way you felt at the time and it's an irreversible association.
The Motorcycle Industry was a really cool band from Brooklyn. Their last show was insane. It took part on the second floor of this venue had no windows and it was easily over a 100 degrees in there. Also, the structural stability of that place was iffy but at least there was a half pipe in the back.

One of the most underrated parts of The Best Show is how much music it has exposed me to. Aimee Mann is pretty awesome and I had no idea. Also, Led Zeppelin rules it and I also ignored them my entire life.
Could not agree more.
My all time fave bands are pretty much all down to The Best Show (and Cherry Blossom Clinic).
Thee Oh Sees, Fucked Up, Ted Leo, Sleeping Bag, Girls, Royal Headache, JEFF The Brotherhood, Reigning Sound, Ty Segall. Paul+Linda McCartney's Ram!
And also credit to TCGS for Black Wine, Brick and Mortor, Laura Stevenson and The Cans, Toys and Tiny Instruments, Alien Father(!!) and constantly suprising me when I go into the archive and see people like Strange Boys and Kevin Devine having played who I'm super into already.
I saw Kevin Devine play a few months ago and only found out after when I was going through the archive that he'd played on TCGS - completely missed my chance to nerd out about TCGS. Devastated!
Also listening to The Descendents a lot recently after the insane experience I had seeing them a few weeks ago. Riot Fest Brooklyn was cancelled due to the sky appearing as if it was going to collapse in on itself. They ended up playing a free show at Saint Vitus in Brooklyn. On top of that sheer craziness alone, I semi-got the mic during "Descendents". I read that they're going to put out a new album soon. I'm excited for it.

Did you ever see that weird Devo Disney thing? Dev2.0? Where they got kids to cover all the devo songs, songs about "jerking it good"... very weird.
I kind of just want to talk about Devo forever now. Dev2.0 was insane and makes me cry, simply because despite attempts by Disney to neuter their songs, most of them are still subversive as Devo intended. Discovering Devo was utterly important to me, for the first time I knew I was not alone, that there were other people out there that felt the same about the world as I do.
There's a lot of great Devo songs, but recently I've been in love with "Explosions" from Oh, No! It's Devo. Yes, their 5th album. Some will say only their first four were any good, and quite frankly this song won't be for everyone, but I love it to the point that I want to get "We like explosions" tattooed on my chest (I won't do it, of course, because if I did I would inevitably get strip-searched by TSA or police at some point and it would become a very bad idea).
The new Ben Folds Five track has been making the rounds, and I'm sharing it because I can't get it out of my head. I like Ben Folds Five, but more importantly, I love Fraggles and everybody in this video, and DO IT ANYWAY is good advice.
And here's a couple of tracks from one of my favorite albums, the one I've likely listened to more than any other, The Mae Shi's third album Hlllly. They're insane, they're an experimental punk band from LA. Some of their tracks are Christian in subject matter, but I think they just wanted to mine the religion for crazy lyrics. They do lots of drugs. The whole album is outstanding.
AND JUST ONE MORE from Physical Forms, a sideproject of The Mae Shi's Jeff Byron along with abstract rapper Busdriver. There is no other upcoming album I am more excited for.
And YES the Pixies! I have loved the Pixies. I currently love the Pixies. I had a period where I couldn't listen to their music after watching loudQUIETloud and discovered they are not people I would want to know in real life, but I came around again when I realized that their music is too good to judge them for being humans like the rest of us. Even John Lennon was an asshole.

Ha thanks for that, i didn't know loudQUIETloud existed. I'm watching it now and 30mn in, it's already mega depressing. Except the live songs, which serve as nice air drumming breaks.
PS: i love the Pixies more, because i never stopped, since the first time i heard "Here comes your man" in my older brother's room, which was an oasis of awesome in the middle of his (and i thought my)heavy metal phase.
Most of what I love has already been mentioned! NJ pop punk is what got me started listening to music. (The Ergs, Lifetime, etc) I was about 5-10 years too young for most of what I listened to in high school but other bands that I don’t think were mentioned yet… Congress of Cow/Lanemeyer, Weston, BigWig, all that stuff. I loved those bands and I was so pissed because by the time my mom would let me go to weird shows in new bruns they had pretty much all broken up or gone on hiatus. Full Disclosure: I didn’t only listen to cool bands with credibility as I went to over 20 Fall Out Boy concerts between 2003-2007.
I love The Mountain Goats. They’re probably my favorite band. John Darnielle is a genius and he has such an extensive back catalogue so it’s a great band for people that like to get really obsessed with things… This song “Best Ever Death Metal Band in Denton” has always felt like something the TCGS crowd could get behind. I love how he introduces it in this live version.
Other bands I always love are probably well known around here The Hold Steady, Wilco, Built to Spill, Frightened Rabbit, The Weakerthans, Tallest Man on Earth, Saves the Day, The Front Bottoms, Bruce Springsteen. I am also 100% genuinely obsessed with Taylor Swift and would be happy to discuss her in great detail with anyone.
