I'm ridiculously excited about the new Pinback album that's coming out in a couple weeks.

The first album I ever fell in love with was It's A Shame About Ray by The Lemonheads. Since I'm the resident old-head around here, I'm not sure how much you young guys know Evan Dando and his work. This album holds up ridiculously well.

I was really blessed to come of age in the early 90s. This type of music became really accessible and easy for a high school kid to find and was a great "bridge" into the world of more obscure music. Case in point: I wanted to get their earlier albums, which led me to the late, great Let It Rock in Montclair which led me to buying stuff like The Queers and The Bouncing Souls and Weston.

But, yes, get It's A Shame About Ray as soon as you can. It's one of the five best albums of the 90s.

I saw the Lemonheads play Shame About Ray in its entirety a few years ago and it was so great. Definitely one of my favorite records of all time.

Probably my favorite artist is Tonedeff. He is completely multi-faceted and incredibly talented at most of what he does. I find a lot of people are familiar with him from being on the Immortal Technique track "Peruvian Cocaine" (His verse starts with "Honey I'm home...").

I feel as though him and Geth are similar in that they have both been around for ages, are incredibly talented, and have seen their peers get pushed into the spotlight without getting the credit they deserve and eventually built a grassroots cult following. I saw Tone a few nights ago playing at another MC's birthday bash and I was one of two people there to see him. It made me kinda sad.

Anyway, here's a taste of a few of his styles...
Fast rapper:

Deep, insightful lyricist (As Chico & The Man w/ Kno from Cunninlynguists):

He evens sings/composes (as Peter Anthony Red):

He's also the head of QN5 Records and has put together an incredible crew of artists: Cunninlynguists, PackFM, Substantial and Kokayi...definitely worth checking out.

And if that wasn't enough, him and PackFM do a really funny podcast called "Taco's And Chocolate Milk"

Sadly, missing the livestream tonight, but its for a good cause.

OFF! is Keith Morris from Black Flag/Circle Jerks, drummer from RFTC/Hot Snakes, couple other guys from bands I'm not as familiar with.

I'm with dh. in the GBV love. The Who fans on the board should give them a listen.
