katie lynch and i became friends because of a hold steady message board. true story.

everyone seems to be really into the front bottoms but i just don't get it.

I'm SO into the front bottoms right now. Please book them on the show!

If not the best, then certainly most memorable concert I've ever been to. This was just one of many highlights of the evening, but most certainly the best recorded one.

I usually like to describe The National as Raymond Carver's stories in the form of songs and as the very antithesis of those lines from The Smiths' Panic about music that "says nothing to me about my life". I think no other album has encapsulated the unmagnificence of adult life of 30-somethings in a way Boxer did and that's why, at this point in my life, it has topped the list of my favourite albums of all time.

Screamo was mentioned on the show this week so I figured I should post some cool bands in that genre.

Here is some music that I like. Mostly rap stuff. And mostly underground/indie/backpacker/whatever-type rap stuff. And mostly from the Midwest. I'm not from the Midwest, so I'm not sure how that happened.

Atmosphere

P.O.S.

Soulcrate

Sage Francis

EDIT: I guess I don't understand how the embed youtube thing works.

Here's some Canadian artists you folk may not be familiar with (hyperlinks because embedding Bandcamp tracks failed massively).

Clocked In from St. Johns Newfoundland [hardcore]
http://clockedin.bandcamp.com/track/george-st

The Tequila Mockingbird Orchestra from British Columbia [gypsy folk]
http://tequilamockingbirdorchestra.bandcamp.com/track/canoe-song

Snake Oil Salesmen from Ontario [folk, bluegrass]
http://snakeoilsalesmen.bandcamp.com/track/wagon-wheel

Hobo Outlaws from Quebec [streetgrass]
http://hobooutlaws1.bandcamp.com/track/cocaine

Bradleyboy MacArthur from Ontario [one-man blues]
