Chris wouldn't say who was calling and where they're from until after they hang up.

Chris could be pissed off about something, and then Vacation Jason comes out.

But to seriously loser the fuck out on this for a second, backwards is so hard live. It's one thing to do it in film, with the benefit of editing. But live for an hour? Yeesh. It's one of those things which I don't even know if 80% of the audience would get what a monumental accomplishment it would be if it was done well.

Because "backwards" really has to be a bunch of discrete segments done in reverse order, and each time you'd want the segment to be playing out the effect of something that happened earlier, with the cause shown later being the punchline. So that means you need to structure things to cut away to, like videos, bits, musical performances to allow for the cuts backward, and everything has to be paced out to accommodate the overarching bit. You need to be really controlled and specific in how you talk about what's "already happened" but yet to play out on screen so as not to spoil the reveals. The panel can't talk to callers about earlier segments because in the reality of the show those bits haven't happened yet. It would be hard to follow where the callers are going because you have to keep feeding the bit. It would be really weird for new viewers who don't have an understanding of the beats of a typical episode. It's hard to reset the conceit for people who tune in late because to acknowledge it is to undermine it.

So, yeah, hard as fuck. It would be mind-blowing to pull off though.

By the way, I'm new here. I think about fun things too seriously and people sometimes find that a little draining. Hi!

You're definitely over-thinking it. You admit that the show has an established structure, and this idea just reverses it. Acknowledging it doesn't undermine it at all, if anything it makes it better. The difficulty is what makes it a great idea. Watching everyone struggle and find their way through an episode that runs backwards is great.

All the greatest episodes of this show are extremely "weird for new viewers."

Also, this episode would need the one person whose deal wouldn't change: Phil Jackson. He still walks in, reads a poem, then walks out.

You would get along well with my wife. And my parents. And a lot of people I know.
