Hey guys!
Starting in December, MNN is putting their studio through some major renovations. We've known this was coming for a while, but weren't sure of any start date. It's still not firmed down, but it looks like our access to the 59th Street studio will end after the 11/28 show. We've been told the renovations might last as long as two full months. It's hard to project.
The good news is the studio is going to have all sorts of new equipment after this. We'll be able to broadcast in HD, there will be more interactive based stuff, etc.
The bad news is we have to figure out how exactly TCGS is going to function through those two months. Myself, JD, Dru, Noah, and Emma have been talking a lot about this on email trying to figure out an exact game plan, and I figured in the course of that discussion it would be good to get the opinions of our audience. Specifically, I'd love to hear from anyone who regularly comes to the studio already - cast/crew/audience, please if you stumble upon this, offer up your thoughts.
Here are some thoughts we have -
1) MNN does have a second studio we can work out of. It is smaller, and most dauntingly it is on 104th St way on the east side. It is only a block from a 6 train station at 103rd st. If you are a New Yorker who comes to the show, would this commute get old over two months? The 6 train runs local and this means you'd have to head back downtown from East Harlem at midnight at the earliest. My guess is that we wouldn't be able to sustain our crowd and crew over two months traveling this far. Please be honest.
2) We find an alternate home - This would mean setting up a makeshift space for ourself someplace not MNN related. There are no potential spaces we've locked down for this yet. Here are the questions I have - would our at home viewers get very tired of shows that weren't studio quality? For example, these would most likely be shot off of one camera instead of livecut between three. Is that going to degrade the level the show is at in your mind? New Yorkers - what neighborhoods would you travel to for this? Most likely if we found a space large enough to accommodate bands and a crowd, they'd be out in Brooklyn somewhere. Is that a huge pain in the ass?
Obviously, if anyone in New York has access to a fuckin' TV studio, we're all ears. Or a warehouse space/loft space/etc. All leads and help are appreciated.
Thanks so much, guys -
Gethard
